WHY I WROTE THIS BOOK?
I have spent the last 18 years collecting the experience contained in this book, including long field trips, hundreds of errors, interaction with different species, and so on.
It has been challenging. And I packed it all into this physical volume, making all these years accessible to you for a tiny fraction of such costs.
A lot of people talk about bamboo architecture...
BUT FEW TALK ABOUT HOW TO CREATE IT
The information out there mostly shows bamboo projects without their 'secret' design processes. Many of those rely on the digital rendering.
Wang Shu (Pritzker 2012) said: "our memories associated with nature are reawakened through real personal experience, and it can be reflected only by freehand and model-making "... Then, why should we focus on digital tools only?.
I realized through years of practice that hand-made modeling is the primary tool to design bamboo architecture. But at the same time, I got obligated to learn its the role in the digital era.
Otherwise I wouldn't be able to design bamboo architecture in China for almost a decade...
